This June, Prosperity North Carolina shines a spotlight on our Veterans at Home initiative, part of Operation Give & Save, which provides home repairs and accessibility modifications for veterans and their families. Our mission is simple: those who served our country deserve homes that are safe, accessible, and supportive of independent living.
Veterans at Home: Making a Difference
Many veterans face housing challenges that jeopardize their safety and independence. Veterans at Home addresses these challenges by:
Installing ramps, handrails, and stair lifts for mobility support
Repairing roofs, plumbing, and electrical systems to ensure safe living conditions
Modifying kitchens and bathrooms for accessibility
Offering guidance on navigating VA benefits and housing assistance programs
By combining practical home improvements with resources and advocacy, the program ensures veterans can thrive in the communities they call home.
Success Stories from Our Communities
In Durham County, a veteran who had difficulty navigating stairs now has a stair lift and accessible entryway, allowing them to live safely without relying on family or neighbors.
In Orange County, a veteran family received home repairs to fix unsafe wiring and improve bathroom accessibility, significantly reducing health risks.
In Chatham County, a veteran with mobility challenges had their entire home modified, including widened doorways and grab bars, enabling them to regain independence and host family gatherings.
These stories illustrate how home modifications do more than improve safety—they restore dignity, independence, and quality of life.
